WBAI LSB Meeting — February 19, 2004

The WBAI Local Station Board (LSB) held its first meeting on February 19, 2004 at the Theater for a New City at 155 1st Ave, in Manhattan. And of course this is not an official Web page of the LSB.

I put out a newsletter for the WBAI Staff about this meeting.

Looking at this newsletter some days after it's been distributed to every Staff mailbox at WBAI I'm now wondering if I bent over too far backwards in not naming names about the voting blocks that emerged during this meeting. Maybe I should have simply called them “voting blocks” instead of “groups.” I labeled them W, X, Y and Z so as not to have anyone think I was endorsing any one voting block by labeling it “A.”

The screwup I noted in the newsletter about not allowing nominations without a second during the delegates' meeting phase of the evening has resulted in a complaint by a LSB member. And so there will be another delegates' meeting held before the next LSB meeting on Thursday, March 4, 2004, at 6:30 PM at DC 1707, 75 Varick Street in Manhattan on the 14th floor.

The Special Delegates meeting will be convened by WBAI LSB Chair Berthold Reimers to address a question of parliamentary procedure and an election if necessary. It will flow directly into the regular Local Station Board meeting. Please attend.

NOTICE OF SPECIAL PACIFICA DELEGATE MEETING


Thursday March 4, 2004 @ 6:30 PM

Wheelchair-accessible.

On Thursday February 19, 2004 three Listener Delegates were elected to represent WBAI to the Pacifica National Board. Those three Listener Delegates are Ray Laforest, Alice Shields, and Miguel Maldonado. However, these elections were challenged by LSB member Paul DeRienzo on procedural grounds claiming that two nominations from the floor for national directors were disqualified because they were not seconded; and that according to Robert's Rules of Order, which Pacifica and WBAI are required to follow, the disqualification of a non-seconded nominee who does not decline the nomination is in error.
If the point is well taken then nominations will be reopened and a new election will be conducted immediately for the three listener-director seats.

I am therefore calling for the elected LSB members to convene a special delegates meeting on the evening of the WBAI LSB meeting to address this question of parliamentary procedure.
