WBAI LSB Meeting — August 10, 2004
The twelfth WBAI Local Station Board (LSB) meeting was held on Thursday, August 10, 2004, at 6:30 PM at the Ft. Green Community Center in Brooklyn. This is not an official Web page of the LSB.
WBAI Management provided a public address system, and someone to run it, this time. The Secretary recorded what she could on a Mini-Disc again.
Security guards again kept the incivility and disruptions to a non-violent mode.
Lawrence Lucas' five month absence came to a head at the beginning of this meeting. Motions were made to excuse absent members by name, for the first time ever at a WBAI LSB meeting, and Lucas was named among them by a faction member. As Chair pro tem of the meeting I had to make a ruling on the legality of it. I ruled that the amendment couldn't be made. How do you excuse someone from missing their ninth meeting in a row when you've never excused their absence before and the bylaws say you lose your membership after missing three meetings in a row? Of course the faction decided to label this some sort of racial attack. And they continued to push that lie.
We passed a motion on waivers at this meeting. In the almost 3½ hours and $175 this meeting cost us that's all we got done.
Here is the newsletter I wrote for the WBAI Staff about this meetingHere are the approved minutes of this meeting in Microsoft Word format.
